British screenwriter, and husband of Brittany Murphy – Simon Monjack was found dead Sunday (June 23, 2010) night at his Rising Glen Road mansion in the Hollywood hills.

Monjack, 39, was pronounced dead after the Los Angeles Fire Department was called at 9:40 p.m. to the home for a medical emergency. Brittany’s mother, Sharon Murphy, reportedly lived in the home with Monjack, and according to a CNN report, it was Sharon who found the unconscious Monjack in his bedroom and called for help on Sunday night.

Brittany Murphy, 32, Simons Murphy, his wife of less than three years, died five months ago in December from a combination of pneumonia, an iron deficiency and multiple drug intoxication, a coroner said. The drugs involved were legal and used to treat a respiratory infection, according to an autopsy. See my blog report on it:

Now Brittany’s husband Simon Monjack is dead, too. And, yet again, reports have surfaced that there were significant amounts of prescription medications in the house. “We’re not sure if it is natural causes or a possible accident, maybe because of the prescription medication found there,” Ed Winter, the assistant chief coroner in L.A., told People magazine on Monday.
“We concluded there no signs of foul play or any criminal activity involved,” Sgt. Alex Ortiz, another police spokesman, told the AP.

A Monjack family spokesman, meanwhile, told the magazine that Simon was due for a heart bypass operation in the near future. “I don’t believe he had an overdose,” the spokesman said. “If you have a heart condition, you’re going to have prescription medication for yourself. You’re going to be on some kind of medicine.”

At the time of his death, Monjack, a Brit, was known in Hollywood as a sometime director, with a history of messy romantic entanglements, bad debt, and other legal trouble.
Monjack was outspoken about his grief following Murphy’s December death. He described how he had lost his “best friend and soul mate” as the “Clueless” and “Girl, Interrupted” star was laid to rest at Forest Lawn Memorial Park on Christmas Eve.

Celebrity drug addicts, and those who supply them with drugs, have all sorts of ways to try and convince people that they are sober individuals, with no connections to illicit substances. Simon’s death is now amid a torrent of speculation that he and his deceased wife Brittany Murphy had had problems with cocaine and prescription medications.

When his wife died in December, there were pill bottles lying all around the house. But Monjack had explanations: She was hypoglycemic; he had heart problems and survived oral cancer.

However the Murphy’s died – the fact is that both are now dead. A tragic end to a wonderful actress and her husband, both who died way to early in their lives.

For me, it is still a question whether these deaths are just another sad Hollywood drug related death story, or just a strange set of co-incidents…
