I was reading the following article:
It’s about the legalization of marijuana in California and how various efforts are gaining momentum and 2010 is shaping up to be very intense in California next year.
I don’t know if this is a good thing or not, I know that smoking weed is popular everywhere and with virtually everyone – especially kids who seem to be able to get it when ever they want.
In the scope of things – I think alcohol, prescription drugs, coke, crack and heroin pose a greater endangerment to others and offer a path to self destruction that is far greater then marijuana.
But, weed is not without it’s problems. It may effect everyone a little differently, but heavy pot smokers tend to be lazier, and have a much harder time accomplishing things in life.
I am not saying that the legalization of pot is good or bad, I just think that everyone should really think hard about what all the ramifications might be and how it will effect the well being of everyone.
Of course, the state could use the money it would get in taxes, but is that worth a possible increasing in crime, or the possibility of leading kids into harder drugs – both things that increase with increased marijuana usage. Granted, it could also lessen petty crime, but it might make people fat and lazy as well.
Just think about it before going to the polls in 2010.
